Shampoo...Effects on plants and the environment?

For an investigatory project, my group was planning to experiment on plants by diluting shampoo in water, and watering that plant with the mixture. Our question is do you think it would have an effect on the plant? and more importantly by doing this experiment would it be harmful to the environment?

Thanks for all your comments!!Shampoo...Effects on plants and the environment?
It should make the plant insect free. It would probably be good for the plants because a lot of shampoos are derived from plants. It would probably not be good for some animals, such as fish. I would think it would do great harm to their gills and affect their ability to breath.Shampoo...Effects on plants and the environment?
You won't need much. We use the wash machine water to water our garden. We have for years. Shampoo is the same thing but it is thick. Dilute it a few drops to a quart of water. It won't hurt the environment. It kills the bugs. They get diahrea and die from the soap. It is good for the plant. We even water our fruit trees with the washer water. My husband attached a hose to the one on coming out of the back of the wash machine. Then he uses PVC pipe and clamps to rig up an underground watering system. Saves on drinking water and helps the garden. Great garden this year! The soap water isn't harmful to animals (dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, etc.). It won't hurt children either. It will make your underground vegetables (carrots, potatoes, turn ups and such) taste like soap.
small scale will not harm envirionment.

pH of soil will change which will affect plant.

Are phosphates in shampoo - that affect algae blooms in bays etc.?

mosquitos won't breed as well since they lay eggs in standing water, and the shampoo will change water tension of standing water.
