Before i knew that you shouldnt bathe cats with human shampoo, i gave my cat a bath and used pantene pro v. Nothing happened to him at all though and he didnt get sick or anything, i would of noticed trust me my cats is my life haha. Then just recently i found out that you shouldnt wash them with that. What could of happened and why didnt anything happen to my cat. thanksWhat could be the effects of using human shampoo on a cat?
it will dry their skin !!dont use it.What could be the effects of using human shampoo on a cat?
it could dry out the skin or if the cat is allergic..it could cause a rash or irratation to the skin.
Remember cats are always licking their fur!! One reason is that they get VITAMIN D from this behavior!! Shampooing with human products can leave toxins ,allowing for their ingestion as well as depleteing the vitamin!! People have to be careful about the products they use on themselves as well since toxins can be absorbed through the skin!!!!!!!!!
It would have irritated kitty's skin, and the scent would have probably been annoying to kitty's nose. It's usually a bad idea to bath your cat anyways because they have their own self cleaning oils in their skin, and bathing will only dry them out and create skin problems. Plus, cats always clean themselves, and the after taste of Pantene I'm sure doesn't taste good.
Most human soap products should not be used on animals. This is because they contain scents and other ingredients that can trigger serious dermatological conditions. Cats maintain a healthy balance between skin and hair with natural oils, and aggressive cleaning compounds can have an adverse effect by removing these. Products developed for sensitive human skin types, including many baby soaps, could be used carefully and would not harm a cat. However, if you want to be completely confident it is advisable to use products developed specifically for cats which are available from pet stores.
The truth is most pet shampoos are not much different than those labeled for humans. I have showed Persians for years and they received complete baths and blow outs on a regular basis. When choosing a shampoo for your kitty it is best to avoid heavily scented ones. Also, do not use shampoos that are formulated for any kind of dandruff control as they often contain ingredients that can be toxic to your kitty such as tea tree oil.
You basically could have killed him... the hair falls out and he kind of looks burnt, or he could have had an allergic reaction or a million other things. You were very lucky! Don't do it again!
